Blogging While Feminist

Plain(s)feminist: Just plain feminism.

Thursday, June 12, 2008

Hirshman.

Sometimes, when people get it wrong, they get it so wrong that there's almost nothing left to say.

Thankfully, BFP knows just what to say (click below to read the whole thing):

Modern feminism is irrelevant to most women (not just women of color) or women *think* it is irrelevant not because women are just stupid and can’t figure out how sexism sucks–but because feminism has left the majority of women in the cold and made itself accountable to Washington politicians, 501c3 rules, elite conferences of which you must already be a part of or aware of feminism to know about and attend (and which I admit fully to attending and supporting), and exclusive listserves that make decisions for all women but are accountable to no one, etc.

This is not a movement.

I repeat, this is not a movement.

It’s an exclusive networking club.

And no woman, of color or otherwise, owes her allegiance to an exclusive networking club simply because she has a vagina and the exclusive networking club members have vaginas.

Stuff Daddy said...

Wow. Well written. That can be said about a lot of idealogical movements that have lost touch with the masses and become intellectually superior oligarchies. It's always a danger.
