Today, my kid says, "Mommy, what does...GEE...SUSS...KREYST...mean?"
I stopped in my tracks, wondering if this was going to be a philosophical conversation. Then it dawned on me.
"Where did you hear that?" I asked, stalling, hoping that maybe I could blame it on bad influences at daycare.
"From you, Mommy. You say it all the time."

heh... bad influences at daycare.
Lately one of my favorite songs is "The Ballad of John & Yoko" because of the "Christ, you know it ain't easy" line.
I've also been into the "God Give Me Strength" song by Elvis Costello, because he's asking for strength but he also wishes painful vengeance on his rival. "See, I'm only human, I want him to hurt." Voila, religious education via popular music.
Hi there. I liked the poop post. I come from the Great Middle myself, but having gone to school out east I can imagine what a freakish culture shock it must be to become a South Dakotan mid-life.
My son wants to know if Jesus lives in space. I tell him yes, Jesus is an astronaut.
Carrie - honestly, I think it was more of a freakish shock for you to refer to me as being in "mid-life." It's going to take me a while to get over that one, true though it may be!
Sorry, I only meant that in the post-childhood sense. You're not a kid, you're not old, you're in the middle of your life. The stage lasts about 50 years I reckon.
I'm just glad we got our kids out of the Baptist Afterschool program before the topic of Jesus Christ and why Mom and Dad are going to burn in hell came up. I had visions of my kids getting "saved" and trying to convert us which is one of my biggest fears.
